Tell us about yourself and your company.
Hair by Rochelle LLC is an on-site hairstyling company serving the greater Baltimore area. It’s a small company, with myself as the lead hairstylist and a few dedicated, amazing assistants when I have large bridal parties. I love that I get to do what I love for work!

How did you find yourself in the wedding industry?
After graduating from hair school, I realized that a salon that only styled hair did not exist (this was before the days of Drybar) and that was all I wanted to do. Sure I loved coloring and cutting, but styling and braiding and updo’s were my PASSION; my forté. A few months later a friend asked me to style her and her bridesmaids hair for her wedding, and suddenly it clicked– I could just style hair for weddings!
What inspires you or your work?
Other stylists’ work! I love seeing photos of or seeing in person the beautiful styles that other stylists in my field create. It may be their go-to style that they don’t think much of, but it could be something I’ve never tried and I think- OOH! I have to do that at the next wedding I book!

What do you love about working weddings?
I love that my clientele is always changing. I’m always meeting new people and experiencing new interactions and seeing so many different celebrations. I also love the fact that I can tell the same stories and/or the same jokes at almost every single wedding and it never gets old- because its a different audience every single time. Haha!
What’s your favorite part about a wedding?
Personally? Dancing. But working one? I’d say my favorite part is when I get to put the bride’s veil in. Seeing her react after her hair is done and her veil is in is a beautiful, special moment, and I’m privileged to be a part of it.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your field?
That you really cannot please everyone. There will always be a wedding where someone is not going to like their hair, no matter what I do. I can only try my best and give them the best customer service as well. I have had a bride tell me after her wedding that she did not like her hair but she thought I was incredibly professional and a very nice person– I’ll take it.
A good piece of advice for brides and/or grooms to be:
Always hire a beauty team for your wedding! Yes, that includes grooms getting groomed! :) If you look your best you will feel your best, and you will love your photos even more. And there’s nothing better than being pampered on your wedding day and having hair and makeup done for you.
