Planning 101: Courthouse Weddings

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honor of photographing a fun couple at a Baltimore County Courthouse wedding in Towson – so I thought it might be a good topic to cover in terms of “Planning 101” topics. Not every couple wants an elaborate wedding and some like to keep things simple and to-the-point when it comes to the ceremony. If you’re planning on having a civil ceremony at the Baltimore County Courthouse, here are some pointers for you.

What to Bring:

  • Proof of Identification
  • Marriage License – $35 cash only – must be obtained 48 hours ahead of time, valid for 6 months in MD
  • $25 fee for the civil ceremony (cash only)

Things to Note:

  • No appointment slots are available (first come, first serve basis)
  • Civil Ceremony Hours (Baltimore Co): Monday-Friday – 9:30am-11:30am and 2:00pm-3:30pm
  • If you are bringing guests, everyone must be present before you can take a waiting ticket
  • Photo + video IS allowed at the Baltimore County Courthouse (Towson)
  • There is a security check as you enter the Courthouse
  • A copy of your marriage certificate is available for an additional $5.50 (cash, check, or money order)

These tips are specific to Baltimore County. Please note that some County Courthouses do allows appointments and some do NOT allow photo and/or video.
