Pier 5 Hotel Wedding by Theresa Choi Photography

Caitlin and Scotty first met on a cruise ship, but their love story began in Downtown Baltimore, where they had their first date. The Pier 5 Hotel was their dream wedding location and it was truly the perfect place for them to celebrate with family and loved ones.

Shared throughout this post is a beautifully written snippet by Caitlin, about their relationship. This affair was captured by the talented Theresa Choi Photography.

“Scotty and I first locked eyes across the pool deck of a cruise ship in August 2006. We literally experienced that cliche “Love at first sight” moment. Neither of us could keep our eyes off the other. We shared a moment; a connection that couldn’t be described by words. I knew then that I had fallen for someone special. Sadly, our vacation ended and Scotty had to return to San Diego, CA and I had to return to college in Towson, MD. Despite being on opposite ends of the country, it was impossible to forget one another. We ended every evening talking on the phone for several hours. Two months went by and our connection to one another grew stronger. We took a leap of faith to see one another again and fell in love on our first real date at Baltimore’s Downtown Inner Harbor.”

“From that moment on, Scotty and I were inseparable. Our connection was real and intense from thousands of miles away and right next to each other. Because of Scotty’s job as an entertainer, we enjoyed an adventurous relationship with first dates that took us cruising to Sicily, Greece, Canada, up and down the California coastline, and to countless beaches in the Virgin Islands. Despite all of these romantic destinations, we always found that the best moments were the simple ones enjoyed together. We are a couple that finds joy and romance in the night sky. We are each other’s best friend.”

“Four years and a college graduation later, Scotty proposed at sunset on a lake by our home. It was so simple, yet perfectly us. The next chapter to our lives begins with our perfect dream wedding at Pier 5 in Baltimore’s Downtown Inner Harbor. Every anniversary celebrating our union as husband and wife will be tied to the romantic location of where we first fell in love.”

“Love found a way to tell us it was right, that it was our destiny to be together. We were two people from opposite coasts brought together by a chance encounter on a ship. We now look forward to spending the rest of our lives together, as one.”

Elegant Hairstyles: For Curly Hair Types

As an on-site hairstylist who focuses mainly on weddings, I’m often asked what styles look best or work best with certain hair types. Most women, myself included, want what they don’t have. I have straight hair and I would KILL for some curls! Then again, sometimes I love having my straight hair to easily create a sleek look. Whether you keep your hair’s natural texture or change it up, making your hair beautiful is every hairdresser’s ultimate goal. Today’s post features a model who has naturally curly hair, which I’ve smoothed to create an elegant, sleek look perfect for a wedding or formal event.

Sarah’s hair texture is naturally curly, and tends to frizz because of the dryness that typically happens with her hair type. To combat the frizz, I first prepped her hair with a smoothing serum (Paul Mitchell’s Super Skinny Smoothing Serum) and sprayed it with an anti-frizz spray (Sexy Hair’s Smooth & Seal). I then used a flat-iron to smooth her hair and add just a slight bend/curl at the ends. Her first style was created by pinning different layers of hair into a faux side ponytail, and creating a large wave using her bangs and front section of hair.

The second style was created directly from the first, by smoothing and twisting her ponytail into a bun and pinning it securely. This combination of styles is a great option for brides who may want one style for their ceremony and a different one for their reception! The bun is easy to create and can be done on your own after a bit of instruction using hair spray and a few bobby pins.

A huge thank you goes to Sarah – for being our first-ever hair model!

LoveBirds: Things To Do Around Baltimore – June Edition

Here at Charm City Wed, we love everything wedding, but we also know that what makes a wedding happen is LOVE. Whether you’re dating, engaged, newly married, or approaching your 50th anniversary, it’s all about love. And what better way to grow that love than spend time together?

Each month we’ll be giving all of you some great ideas of things to do around the Baltimore area and ways to spend quality time together. Here are a few ideas of things to do this month:

  • Have free time this weekend? Want to see a festival that is a Baltimore classic? Head on over to Hampden to experience HonFest 2012! The higher the hair, the closer to God, ladies.
  • June 8th-17th is Wine Week here in Maryland! With various events and tastings being held at many of the area’s local wineries, there’s plenty to choose from. Check out Maryland Wine’s website for various event going on around the area!
  • Relax with a picture perfect mocha at Spoons Cafe in Federal Hill. And while you’re there, enjoy something off of their fantastic breakfast menu. (My favorite: Huevos Verdes!)
  • You or your loved one a book worm? Take an hour or 2 (or more) on a Saturday or Sunday and visit The Book Thing! The best part about this bookstore? Every book is free. That’s right, FREE.
  • Take a leisurely stroll around one of the area’s beautiful parks. Hold hands. Stop and kiss. Play 20 questions. Re-tell one of your most embarrassing moments to each other and see whose is more embarrassing. Breathe the fresh air and take a moment to remember, no matter what else is going on, you have each other.

Happy June, LoveBirds!
