Planning 101: Food Trucks at Weddings

Something I am hearing more from couples planning their wedding is that they not only want their day to reflect their personalities, but that they also want to throw the best party possible for their family and friends – who have come from near and far to support them. I just love that. Not everyone will be comfortable with dancing or even be able to dance – yet you can only sit, eating cake and watching for so long. Providing other activities for your guests ensures that every last guest has a great time.

There are many creative ideas that can keep the party moving: lawn games, photo booths, and my recent favorite… food trucks! Food trucks are a great way to provide an extra treat for your guests, and a fantastic way to support small local vendors. Depending on the type of truck you choose you could make it an extra dessert or a late night snack to fuel all that dancing and photoboothing!

Mike & I decided on Pleasant Pops because – to be honest – who doesn’t have a love affair with brightly colored, artisanal popsicles delivered by cute truck? I wanted guests to have something refreshing and fun upon arriving and give them the freedom of being able to walk up and have as many as they like. (I’ve secretly always wanted to do that at an ice cream truck). Our wedding was a blending of us and all of our favorite things in DC and having the Pleasant Pops truck all to ourselves was the perfect blend of both, along with supporting an awesome local business.” – Alex (bride, shown in above images)

For our wedding, we loved the idea of adding some type of surprise after dinner to keep things exciting. We came across The Orange Cow ice cream truck, and what sold us was the homemade ice cream and the wonderful attitude of the people running it.  Some food trucks we contacted couldn’t assure that they would be available and even serving the same type of food so far in advance, but The Orange Cow crew were incredibly great at communicating with us, seemed very reliable, and were super friendly!  We weren’t let down, they did an amazing job and the ice cream truck was a huge hit at the wedding. It was so fun picking out the flavors and I couldn’t believe how incredibly good their ice cream was!” – Beth (bride, shown in below images)

There is a vibrant food truck community in Baltimore and DC. Some creative offerings are crepes, Banh Mi, gourmet fries, chicken and waffles, milk and cookies, gourmet grilled cheese, popcorn, cupcakes, and of course ice cream and popsicles. Find your favorite food truck, ask them if they visit weddings and treat your guests to a fun late evening snack while supporting your local economy!

Baltimore Engagement by Travis Curry Photography

A gorgeous engagement is the perfect way to start this week! Sometimes you meet the love of your life because fate throws you together, which is true of this couple: they met while both working at a local retirement community in Catonsville, and they happened to both get snowed in together during the great Snowpocalypse of February 2010. The bride said, “We probably wouldn’t be where we are now had it not been for good old Mother Nature!” They had their pictures done by Travis Curry Photography in and around Federal Hill, and included their super cute pup in the session.
