Bride Blogger: Kaylyn – An Introduction

Hey everyone! As the newbie here, I first want to thank Serena and Rochelle for inviting me to be a guest blogger. I couldn’t be more excited!

My name is Kaylyn. I’m 24 years old, currently residing in Baltimore, and engaged to the love of my life (cheesy but 100% true, I promise). I’m a lover of comics, video games, breakfast and mexican food, and all things Disney related. My fiancé, Tim, doesn’t really share my love for all things nerdy, but is more into skateboarding, exploring the outdoors, polaroid (and most all) photography, books, and cooking breakfast. Being a Charm City resident, my favorite thing is by far the variety of amazing places to eat, especially small hole-in-the-wall restaurants you may not notice if you didn’t live here. Tim would probably say that his favorite thing is the endless amount of skate spots that he spends most of his free time at. That being said, we do actually have some things in common besides food… really… we do. ;) And those things are definitely influencing our wedding! But before I get to the wedding, let’s start from the beginning – my engagement!

Since we started dating, going to Disney World has has been our main vacation spot. Tim’s twin brother Sean works there, his parents are members of the Disney Vacation Club, and I’ve been going since I was little, so when we became a couple, Disney was the obvious choice for a getaway. Even at 24 years old and with quite a few Disney trips under my belt, I get overwhelmed with the magic every time I go there. Tim being very aware of this (I may have mentioned it here or there), knew that it would be my dream destination to get engaged at. With the help of his brother, he made my dream come true.

We decided to visit in December since I had never been there for Christmas, and I absolutely had to see Cinderella’s castle dolled up in her Christmas best. That castle has always had a special place in my heart, and also a permanent place tattooed on the back of my right arm. No Disney trip is complete without a visit to the castle. We were two days into our trip when that visit finally came to fruition. Sean told me that for my Christmas present he got a pair of Mickey ears for Tim to wear and I’d get to photograph him in them in front of the castle. This may seem silly to most people, but Tim never (I really mean never) wears the mouse ears no matter how I try to coax him into it, so this was a very exciting thing for me to hear. He put on the ears and I started to try and snap some photos when to my dismay, he started complaining that he didn’t want to wear them and took them off. I didn’t even get a photo! I told him to put them back on and he did, only this time he put them on backwards where it was embroidered  “Will you marry me?” and he got down on one knee. After some initial crying, and shock, I said yes, and Sean handed me my own set of ears that read “Yes!” on the back of them. It was amazing, romantic, and hands down the most magical moment of my life. If you feel so inclined, the video of the proposal is here. :)

So, onto some wedding details! On November 30, 2013, we’ll tie the knot at Camp Puh’Tok amongst close friends and family followed by a night of camping out in the amazing cabins that the camp has to offer! We decided that a church wedding wouldn’t convey who we are as a couple, and neither would a fancy or elegant atmosphere. Since we both love the outdoors, and the thought of spending a night camping out with our wedding attendees, a campground seemed perfect. Luckily, we fell in love with the first and only place we went to see (thanks to my future sister in law for the suggestion of it!) and booked it the same day. I also knew from the start that I wanted everything (decorations, food, my altar backdrop) as DIY as possible. I wanted everyone who wanted to help to have their hand in something, so that when I looked around on the big day I would know that every bit of it was put together by the ones I loved. Going with this random-throw-everything-together theme, I decided to skip on a color scheme (crazy, I know). My scheme is every color I can get my hands on, and not even a single bridesmaid or bouquet will look like another. This fits my and Tim’s personalities pretty well. Somedays I’ll wear floral with stripes and he’s paired camo with plaid. So hey, it’s us, and I firmly believe that every wedding should 100% convey the couple and who they are and what they love, even if it’s unconventional.

I’m really excited to be here sharing with you all, and I hope you enjoy what I can contribute to this already awesome blog! :)
