Lincoln Memorial Engagement by Photography by Brea

Our sister city, the nation’s capital, may seem to be all business- but we know that it is also beautiful and the perfect setting for a couple’s engagement session. Today’s e-session from Photography By Brea is not only gorgeous, it comes with a super sweet proposal story!

From the photographer: “A few weeks before Christy’s birthday, Roger had her save a night so he could take her out on a fancy date to celebrate. She was immediately feeling suspicious that a proposal might be coming, since it was unlike Roger to plan any date weeks in advance.

The night they picked rolls around, and he comes to pick her up… in regular clothes. She had told him that her dream proposal would be him proposing in his Navy uniform. Seeing him show up in regular clothes meant to her that this wasn’t anything unusual– they were just celebrating her and her birthday! Fine by her.

They start the night off by getting cocktails before heading to Martin’s Tavern where they had reservations for dinner. They arrive at Martin’s and Roger excuses himself to the restroom. While he’s gone, the waiter entertains Christy by telling her the specials, and then giving her the history of the restaurant and even the history of their booth. The booth they were seated at was the exact booth where JFK proposed to Jackie O!

The waiter excused himself and comes back with a bouquet of red roses, explains to Christy that today is the 60th anniversary of the famous proposal, and that each year on the anniversary they bring flowers to the table… and then out comes Roger in uniform.”

Cake or Not To Cake

Every couple has an idea on how they want their wedding to look. It might include a grand three tiered cake, a small display-only cake, or as many mini-cakes as tables will allow. You can even have trays of cupcakes or a luscious dessert table. While planning your wedding, how do you decide what dessert to offer your guests?

Everyone has different tastes and ideas and your decision should represent your style and theme of the day. Think about all of your options and what you would enjoy, because at the end of the day, you want to love your dessert. Sweets should be delicious and fun!

Here’s a few options to think of:
Choosing a cake: Cakes are beautiful and super yummy. You can design a traditional tiered cake, or you can think outside of the box. How much fun would it be to have a cake on each table with a different flavor that guests can cut on their own? Or maybe you love the idea of having a cake table with different sizes, styles and designs to match your wedding colors. The options are endless and the decision is all yours!
Skip the Cake: Is it ok to skip the cake? Sure why not! There is no rule that says you can’t have donuts or cookies, pies or whoopee pies, cake pops or truffles or even a cupcake bar. How awesome would it be to have a cupcake topping bar? You could provide your guests with frosted cupcakes and endless bowls of toppings: sprinkles, chocolate sauce, cookie crumbles, candy, and of course cherries!
Mix and Match: Do you want to cut a cake but not serve it? You can still have a small cutting cake and serve your family and friends something different. You might decide on cupcakes, pies or an array of desserts for everyone to enjoy.

When deciding on cake or no cake, determine what you like most and how you picture your day. If you don’t want cake, start your own wedding tradition and provide your guests will desserts they will never forget. Remember, this is your day and you should eat exactly what you want!
