Green Spring Valley Hounds Wedding by Readyluck

Classic, elegant touches, bright pops of color, and an equestrian theme define today’s real wedding from Readyluck!

From the bride, Kathryn: “We first met at the Preakness Stakes during our college years. However, our relationship didn’t begin until years later at our friends’ wedding in Monkton, MD. That night, our best friends conspired to bring us together and very soon thereafter we were making frequent trips between NYC and D.C. to see each other. With an itch for a change and a newly justifiable reason, I packed up my life in D.C. to be Ben’s neighbor in the West Village of Manhattan. It wasn’t long after that Ben planned our engagement. On a September evening, Ben proposed in a quiet garden in our neighborhood and surprised me with dinner with both our families from Baltimore and Boston.

One year later, on September 21st, 2013, we were married in my hometown of Baltimore County at St. Thomas Church. Our tent reception was held at Green Spring Valley Hounds in Glyndon, MD, a fox-hunting club where I grew up riding horses. We both love the outdoors and wanted to share the beautiful Maryland countryside with our guests, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our wedding design was inspired by the fall season, equestrian setting, and our personality as a couple. We partnered with our talented wedding planner and vendor team to make our vision a reality. Our palette of bright fall colors; berry pink, grass green, and gold, accented the details, from the bridesmaid dresses to the flowers to the tablecloths and invitation suite. Our wedding day was filled with so much love and joy. It was an incredible experience shared with our closest friends and family. Southsides were served, the dance floor was packed, and we were married – it was a great success!”

Our 2nd Blogiversary

2 years ago today, June 4th 2012, was a fantastic day I’ll always remember. Serena and I had been working at a feverish pace behind the scenes getting ready to launch the blog, and June 4th was the big day.

I had plans to go to her house that day to do the big launch together and do other work, but before I did, I had a doctor’s appointment. I was worried because I hadn’t been feeling very well, so I wanted to make sure everything was ok. Turns out, everything was more than ok: I found out I was pregnant!

I didn’t want to tell anyone yet, so as I worked with Serena all that day, the day of our big launch, I sat there with a huge grin on my face… knowing I had a little life inside me, and so excited about the launch of this labor of love we had been working on. It was one of the best days ever.

Today, we celebrate our 2nd anniversary– our blogiversary!– and we love that we’d had the privilege of bringing Baltimore awesome wedding inspiration for the past 2 years. Here’s to 2, 10, 20 more!

I’m excited to let you all know of some things we’re working on that will launch soon:

  • Events Page: Wedding shows, trunk shows, and bridal-related showcases in the greater Baltimore area will be listed! This is powered by the hosts- they can submit their show’s information, and we list it, free of charge.
  • Charm City Wed exclusive wedding notebook: a place to keep information, notes, and reflections. We’re super excited about this and can’t share any more just yet!
  • A new, revamped website for The Mix Event: including information on next year’s show, happening February 28th, 2015!

Dessert Favors

Are you having a hard time deciding whether or not you should provide each guest with a favor? Often when choosing a favor, the choice comes down to: should it be edible or something that each guest can take home with them? It truly is dependent on the look and feel of your wedding and what your guests will enjoy most; however, people love food, especially at a wedding! There are so many great options for dessert favors. With dessert, you can individually wrap the favor and tie it with a custom ribbon or thank you note too!

Here’s a few of my top suggestions for dessert favors at your wedding:

  • Cupcakes: Depending on what you are having for dessert at your wedding, cupcakes is always a fun option. There are great cupcake boxes available that have a clear top so you can see what’s inside. An edible logo or topper can be created for each cupcake that will match the colors and theme of your wedding.
  • Cookies: Decorated sugar cookies are always a big hit. You can choose the shape/design and how it is decorated. It can be your initials or a heart or something to reflect the theme.
  • Mini Donuts: Why Not! Who doesn’t love a mini cinnamon and sugar or glazed donut? Your guests will most likely eat them before dinner is even served.
  • Candy Bars: You can set up different sized mason jars, provide your guests with bags and allow them to create their own goodie bag. So much fun!
  • Chocolate: Who doesn’t love chocolate? There are so many chocolate options. Candy bars where the wrapper has your name/date of the wedding, mini bags of Hershey kisses or customized m&m’s or one of my favorites, cake pops.
