Brigid+Nick’s George Peabody Library wedding from Isabelle Selby Photography included so many family heirlooms and they really focused on making their wedding a reflection of them!
“Although we are not from Baltimore (I grew up in Connecticut and Nick, New Jersey), it’s where we met, where we fell in love, and where our life is now.  Our priest, a family friend who married my parents and whom I’ve known my whole life, made the journey to marry us at our alma mater at Loyola’s Alumni Memorial Chapel. We went to look at The George Peabody Library one day – It is a breathtaking place: black and white marble floors, gold filigree stacks, a ceiling made of windows and, best of all, it smells like old paper. What more could you ask for? Considering we spent many hours in Loyola’s library as students, flirting while we wrote English and history papers, and we are both admittedly bibliophiles, we looked no further. Baltimore and the library set the tone for all of the decisions we made thereafter. I designed and made all of our paper goods. Our table numbers were made from pages I cut from some of our favorite books. We hunted down old editions of books along with a vintage typewriter to use as decor. I scoured flea markets and antique dealers for vintage hankies and card catalogue cards, and I designed our seating chart to read like an index, displayed in an antique gold frame that belonged to my father’s parents. The sixpence in my shoe was a gift from my uncle who owns an antique store in Boston; my bouquet was wrapped in silk and lace from my mother’s wedding gown; Nick wore my grandfather’s tie pin to our rehearsal dinner the evening before. Almost everything was a family heirloom (or found in a family member’s attic) or something that had personal meaning, so the day felt very collective, very whole, like everyone present had played a part. One of the nicest compliments we received from a guest is that of all the weddings she has been to, our wedding felt “the most like us.” We both feel that our wedding day represented our past and our present, and now we look forward to the future together.”
