Decorating Your Wedding With Potted Plants: Part 1: The Entry

Decorating Your Wedding with Potted Plants: The Entry

Potted plants may not be the first detail you think of when planning your wedding, but their versatility and availability make them a worthy consideration. As high-impact organic element, potted plants are an affordable alternative to more labor-intensive floral installations and can be enjoyed for years to come in your home or landscape. Whatever your aesthetic, there is sure to be a potted choice that suits your needs!

  • Potted ferns can be both traditional or boho depending on how they are incorporated.
  • Cactus and succulents are trendy and modern.
  • Classic plants like boxwood, olive and herbs offer a time-honored quality.

Here are a few of our favorite lined entryways.

  1. Give your guests a botanical welcome. Potted Hydrangeas are simply stunning lining this drive. After the wedding they can be planted in your garden and enjoyed year after year. Hydrangeas come in a variety of sizes and colors and bloom ALL SUMMER!

Hydrangeas are big, bold and romantic. They are available in many color options from cool blues and lavenders to red, pink and lime. White Hydrangeas would work for any wedding palette.

2. For the more vintage minimal look, line your aisle with small potted herbs to give you a subtle and muted look.

Monochromatic pots are sleek and modern while Lavender and Rosemary offer a fragrant choice.

Sadie & Paul’s Vintage Backyard Wedding, Bowie MD

Sadie & Paul’s Vintage Backyard Wedding in Bowie, Maryland

Sadie & Paul’s backyard wedding in Bowie, Maryland was all about family ties and vintage touches. They chose to have the wedding in Paul’s parent’s backyard. To make this wedding even more personalized, family and close friends contributed the decor, flowers, cake, dessert, and wedding planning.  Wedding photography was provided by We Are The Cashmans.

Colors & Bridal Party

The wedding had a neutral color scheme of gold, ivory, champagne, and just a touch of blush pink. The girls picked out their own dresses. Bridesmaids could pick any dress, as long as it fit in the bride’s color scheme. Bridesmaids dresses ranged from sequence to flowing chiffon.

The bride wore an open back A-line dress with a beaded bodice and tulle overlay. She wore her hair in a messy bun and had flowers woven into the style. The bridal party carried oversized bouquets of all white flowers accented with greens. The brides family made the bouquets.

Ceremony:

Sadie & Paul were married under the trees that Paul played under as a child. Paul’s childhood pastor performed the ceremony. They were married in front of a wooden arch with an asymmetrical design. The arch was draped with linen on one side and large white floral arrangement on the other.

Reception:

The intimate backyard reception was a  BBQ, catered by Mission BBQ. Their dog Duke joined the couple at their wedding reception. The dance floor was laid overtop an open field of grass and lined with clear glass bulbs.  At the end of the event, the groom changed into a crazy party shirt. This is apparently a fighter pilot tradition.

Good food, beautiful flowers, and solid wedding design, Sadie & Paul’s DIY wedding still had a high-end look. The vintage touches throughout the reception (check out the cake table),  and the other unique elements made this backyard wedding casual but still classic and beautiful.

Wedding at William Paca House Annapolis by Tara & Renata

Wedding at William Paca House Annapolis

The old world charm of this Annapolis location was the perfect setting for this couple. Lace, hydrangea, light pink, and accents of precious metals were found in their wedding day decor. Caitlin & Nathan’s daytime garden wedding took place in historic William Paca House in their manicured gardens.

Getting Ready

The bridal party dressed at the Westin hotel in Annapolis. The bride wore a simple and romantic lace top full length sheath  dress. The bridesmaids wore light pink tea-length gowns with lace tops. They carried round bouquets of ivory hydrangea. Groomsmen’s suits were blue with light pink bow ties. Clean and romantic was the style of this wedding day. The overall look was traditional feminine touches with romantic charm.

Ceremony & Reception

The ceremony and reception took place in the gardens of the William Paca House. Caitlin & Nathan exchanged vows while guests stood witnessing their ceremony. The tall white tower in the background stood as a witness to their promises.

The reception was overlooking the manicured grounds. The couple chose the tented outdoor area. The garden theme reception decor was accented with touches of pinks and gold. Greens were tied in with golden accents. Table arrangements were simple hydrangea flowers in copper pots. The decor was feminine and simple allowing the space to shine.

Sagamore Pendry Wedding by tPoz Photography

We are thrilled to share Erin+Pat’s Sagamore Pendry wedding by tPoz Photography! The Sagamore Pendry hotel has so many gorgeous nooks, and the infinity pool looking out over Baltimore is a great photo spot!  During the ceremony, the massive Botero horse sculpture kept a watchful and approving eye on the couple as they said their I Do’s in the open-air, but still partially covered, courtyard.  Their wedding ceremony was the first one to be held in the courtyard/atrium and it was beautiful!  Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the beautiful black & white checkered space, and you certainly can’t miss that grand entrance with the red carpeted steps!  The 4,565 square foot Grand Ballroom was exquisite with its awe-inspiring 35-foot ceilings, restored to its original 1914-aesthetic using state-of-the-art conservation techniques.  The evening was full of dancing, laughter, and great times, as the party continued into the night.  The next morning, the couple was off to their Hawaiian Honeymoon, making the rest of us jealous!
