Focusing on the fundamentals of a relationship means extra work, but it also makes it extra-worthwhile. Amanda shares a little bit about how she & Jason met, and how they approach their relationship. “Jason and I were set up on a blind date by my brother-in-law. I remember like it was yesterday, being a nervous wreck and trying to come up with every excuse to cancel. I can now admit that it was the best plan I’ve ever agreed to. The beginning of our story unfolded very naturally. He was so easy to talk to, which made me comfortable being around him. I can still recall thinking to myself on one of our first dates, “wow, I could do this for the rest of my life.” I know it sounds cliché but I am now one of those people who tell their single friends, “you’ll know when you meet the right one.” The fundamentals of a relationship definitely come naturally to us. But even when you find “the one”, relationships still require work. One of my favorite things to do, and one I find very important in our relationship is so simple. Just making time for each other every night. When you get engaged, plan a wedding, pursue career advances, buy a house, turn that house into a home, and just live life in general, it’s easy to get off track and lose sight of each other. Jason and I make it a priority every night, even if it’s just for twenty minutes, to lay in bed, talk to each other, and spend time together. This means that there is no TV, no phones, and no social media. Getting to spend uninterrupted time with him is honestly my favorite part of the day, and makes everything feel worthwhile.”
