Planning 101: Wedding Day Beauty Preparation

The question has been popped, and answered yes… congrats, you’re engaged! Now to make the checklist so many couples know so well… “Photographer? Check. Venues? Check. Caterer? Check. Hair Stylist & Makeup Artist? … I’ll think about that later.”

Oh so often, couples do not think about the beauty aspect of their wedding until last minute. I am here to encourage all of you to make it a priority and to plan ahead!  (First, I would like to make the disclaimer that although I may refer to the bride(s)/women mainly as the focus audience of this post, we acknowledge that men grooming services also exists!)

Why is it so important to have your hair and makeup done on your wedding day? Simple: when you look your best, you feel your best!  We all know that we have a little more of a bounce in our step after leaving the salon after a great cut & style, or after putting on that brand new pair of jeans that hugs our curves just right.  So why wouldn’t you want that same feeling on one of the biggest days of your life?

Here are a few great suggestions to get your wedding day beauty prep planning going!

  • Highly consider getting both hair AND makeup services. Often brides get one but not the other to pinch pennies, but in the grand scheme of the wedding, it probably isn’t that much more to spend. Having the ‘complete package’ and not having to worry about any part of your beauty regimen yourself is worth its weight in gold.
  • Decide what will work best for you and your bridal party: receiving beauty services from either a Salon (you travel to them) or an On-Site Beauty Company (they come to you). Consider the overall timeline of your wedding day, convenience, and comfort when deciding which to pick. Both have perks, and there are many fantastic salons and on-site companies in the Baltimore area to choose from!
  • Start compiling a list of your prospect salons/companies. A great way to start is to ask friends who are married for recommendations. Pro Tip: Check out the salon or company’s reviews on WeddingWire or Wedding Channel. An established salon or company in the wedding industry should have at least a handful of reviews and the majority of them should be positive!
  • No matter how sure you are on your hair style or makeup look, always, ALWAYS have a hair and makeup trial done! Trials help accomplish more than just finding your desired style. They also allow you to work with your salon or company one on one to decide whether they’re the perfect fit for your big day. Go with your gut… if you’re uneasy about them, there’s no problem having a trial with another salon or company!

Happy Planning!
