You know what they say about raaaaaain on your wedding day….it’s ironic ;) It’s also incredibly beautiful, poetic, and magical! This rainy Annapolis backyard wedding that Pop the Cork Designs sent us, has us breathless over the soft, romantic images from Kira Nicole Photography. Bride Rachel shares her thoughts on rainy wedding days and why you shouldn’t be scared of the weather forecast. “It was Thursday. Thursday, as in two days before our wedding on Saturday, and the forecast confidently predicted not just a sprinkle but constant all-day rain. The weatherman had toyed with my emotions for the last week, but with the wedding on the literal horizon, my optimism tanked and I was forced to welcome the inevitable. My mind quickly wandered to the [less than ideal] ceremony rain plan and my heart sank. Just before my disposition reached rock bottom, a fairy-god-mother of a friend sent me a link to an article that completely changed my outlook on wet weather. And now here I am, happily married and hoping to pay it forward. So take a deep breath and allow me, a recently rained-out bride who leaned into the storm, to tell you why you shouldn’t fret if your wedding forecast is bleak.
First of all, rainy weddings are breathtaking! The dreariness adds a certain whimsical magic, making the pictures turn out incredibly dreamy… not that I’m biased. Not to mention, your photographer will be absolutely stoked to hear that you’re feeling adventurous and positive about elements out of your control.
Secondly, and far more importantly, this is still YOUR day. Your attitude sets the mood for your guests, so if your “rain plan” doesn’t make your heart sing, abandon it! This is the one day when you can tell everyone to stand out in the drizzle with you, to ruin their hair, and to get muddy. People are (hopefully) smart and will bring umbrellas – and if they don’t, they will make friends with someone who did. Situations that on the surface seem flawed, quickly create a feeling of togetherness, like everyone is in on the same joke, making strangers part of a new community that just shared something unique and special.
So order those clear umbrellas, buy some cute rain boots, and invest in waterproof mascara – I can assure you, you won’t regret your decision to weather the storm!”
